Chamber Music Program Celebrates 25 Years
with World Première on April 30, 2007, at 7:30pm.
The New York Youth Symphony’s Chamber Music Program celebrates its 25th anniversary at Weill Recital Hall with guest Daniel Phillips of the Orion String Quartet. Select groups from the program perform celebrated chamber works of Mozart, Brahms, Mendelssohn, and Piazzola, as well as the world première of “Aperture in Shift,” a piano trio by Sean Shepherd. Director Lisa Tipton is the master of ceremonies on Monday, April 30, 2007, at 7:30pm in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.
Daniel Phillips, violinist in the Orion String Quartet, enjoys a versatile career as an established chamber musician, solo artist, and teacher. Mr. Phillips has performed as soloist with many of the country's leading symphonies, including Pittsburgh, Houston, New Jersey, Phoenix, San Antonio. He appears regularly at the Spoleto Festival, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, and Chamber Music Northwest. Mr. Phillips is professor of violin at the Aaron Copland School of Music of Queens College.
Sean Shepherd is the 18th First Music chamber music composer commissioned by the New York Youth Symphony. Mr. Shepherd has received honors from Tanglewood, Aspen Music Festival and School, the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and The Witold Lutoslawski Society. A graduate of The Juilliard School and Indiana University, he is currently pursuing a DMA at Cornell University. Mr. Shepherd will be a resident fellow at the American Academy in Berlin in 2008.
The Chamber Music Program, a program of the New York Youth Symphony led by accomplished violinist Lisa Tipton, offers exceptional artistic development and performance opportunities for high-school and college students of varied levels. In addition to performing annually at Weill Recital Hall and Symphony Space, program participants receive coachings with renowned musicians such as Claude Frank, Ida Kavafian, Joel Krosnick, and members of the Tokyo, Shanghai, and Orion String Quartets.
