Joe Locke

From Program:

The fluent, subtle yet vigorous playing of vibraphonist Joe Locke has been heard in a variety of contexts, from his soul-jazz based Storytelling band and forays into the avant-garde with the legendary pianist Cecil Taylor, to his highly acclaimed 4 Walls of Freedom project, a wide-ranging but hard-hitting suite, which ranked among the top ten albums of the year in DownBeat Magazine's 2003 Reader's Poll.

A self-taught improviser, Joe began his career in the early 1980's inNew York City.  Consistently recognized as one of the premier vibists of his generation, he has toured throughout the world and has recorded twenty cds as a band leader, including the Grammy-nominated "Moment To Moment", a tribute to the music of Henry Mancini.  Joe is presently gearing up to begin touring in support of his forthcoming cd, "Dear Life", due for release on the Sirocco Music label this spring.
