Thank you for your interest in auditioning for the New York Youth Symphony's Orchestra. With its sophisticated programming, performances in one of the world's greatest concert halls, superb musical leadership, new works commissioned of the nation's best young composers, outstanding soloists, and professional-level attitude, the New York Youth Symphony's Orchestra sets itself apart as one of the finest in the nation.

Audition Dates

Auditions for orchestra will be held August 23-25 and September 3-8, 2013. Upon completing the online application and paying the application fee, you will receive a link to schedule your audition time online. All audition times must be scheduled through the online calendar. Please do not phone the administrative office to schedule your audition. Please note: Applications will only be accepted through Wednesday September 4 at noon in order for the office to process the applications.

Before you Apply

Age Eligibility:  

In order to participate in a NYYS Program the applicant's birthdate must fall between November 24, 2001 and May 25, 1991, inclusive. Please do not apply if you are outside of these dates as you will not be eligible for the program and we are not able to refund your application fee.

Program Guidelines: We encourage each applicant to review the Orchestra Program Guidelines to make sure that you can fulfill the commitment to the program before applying. You can also find details about the program on the Orchestra page.

Rehearsal and Concert Schedule: Rehearsals are held most Sundays from 2-4pm at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, located at 450 West 37th Street, New York, NY. The first rehearsal is scheduled for Sunday, September 15.

Kick-Off Weekend: Kick-Off Weekend will take place September 21-22, 2013 at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music. Rehearsals, sectionals, workshops and social events are planned as a way to the orchestra season! This is a required event for all orchestra students.

Fees: A non-refundable application fee for the 2013-2014 season is $75. In addition to the application fee, there is a Registration Fee upon acceptance into the program. Limited work study subsidies are available. Please contact the administrative office if you are intersted in work study opportunities.

What to Expect at Your Audition

Auditions are ten minutes in length. A warm up room is available ten minutes prior to your audition time.

Due to space limitations we ask that you do not arrive for your audition more than 15 minutes in advance.
