Auditions Overview

Thank you for your interest in auditioning for 2013/2014 Season of the New York Youth Symphony.

General requirements and Excerpts (if applicable) for each program can be found through the Program Name in the Left Column on this page.

Eligibility

In order to participate in a NYYS Program the applicant's birthdate must fall between November 24, 2001 and May 25, 1991, inclusive.

2013/2014 Audition Dates

Auditions will be held in the Fall of 2013 and for most programs you will schedule an audition time through our online scheduler. Upon completion of the application process and receipt of your application fee, you will receive an email with a link to schedule your audition. Please do not phone the office regarding audition times as they can only be scheduled online.

Orchestra:  August 23-25 and September 3-8, 2013
Jazz: October 1-3, 2013
Chamber
Composition: September 12 & 13, 2013
Apprentice Conducting: Applicants will be contacted to schedule appointment for dates in mid-September 2013

Application

All prospective students must complete an application and pay an application fee to be considered for a NYYS Program. If the student is applying to more than one program, they only need to complete one application.

All applications must be processed online. Please note that once you begin the application, you will not be able to save your work and resume at a later time. The application should take 15 - 20 minutes to complete if you have the following information available:

  • A digital copy of your passport, state ID or birth certificate and a digital copy of a passport-sized photo.
  • Your private music teacher's name and contact information, if applicable.
  • Your school's name and music teacher's contact information, if applicable.
  • Emergency contact information.
  • Contact information for parents/guardians and grandparents.
  • Credit Card to pay the $75 application fee. Checks may be mailed to the administrative office, but you will not be able to schedule an audition time until payment is received.
  • If you are under 18 years old, a parent/guardian must be available to provide legal consent.

Application Fee

The application fee for the 2013-2014 season is $75. There is an additional registration fee for each program that is due upon being accepted to the program, as outlined on each program page.

Upon submission, you should receive an email confirming that your application was submitted. If you do not receive confirmation within 15 minutes, please contact us at info@nyys.org. Before contacting the office, please check your junk/spam folder.

Scheduling An Audition Time

Upon submitting your application and application fee, you will receive an email within two (2) business days with the link for you to schedule your audition. Please do not phone the office regarding audition times as they can only be scheduled online.
